Queer and Now

Everything new in the world of queer TV and film

Heartstopper ends on Netflix today with a film rather than a final season.

Forever has its issues, but I'm just grateful we got a chance to say goodbye. Also Nick and Charlie bang. Like, a lot. Well, less than I would have at 18, but still. And let's just say those kids are more versatile than I'd have given them credit for.

— Reason #489 why you should watch The Odyssey in cinemas is that it's going to piss off all the right-wing twats who started a hate campaign after they realised that Elliott Page is in it (who, by the way, steals the entire film with a haunting performance plucked from Hades itself).

Plus, the cast is a who's who of people hot enough to turn you gay, straight or bi, depending on how you identify before the film begins. Never mind that Robert Pattinson taunts Tom Holland over "pining for a daddy" he didn't even know.

All Stars season 11 ends today, hopefully with the crowning of Drag Race's first openly gay contestant. But whatever happens, just remember: "Don’t be skimpy with that gumbo."

And if you don't know what that means, you're either not gay enough or not online enough.

— From MonsterDykë director Kaye Adelaide comes a horror-comedy named The Rebrand out Tuesday 21st on VOD.

Shot with an all-queer cast and crew, the film follows a pregnant videographer who's hired to document the comeback of two canceled lifestyle influencers, only to discover something even more sinister is afoot.

That sounds great, but they already had me at MonsterDykë, honestly.

Queer Awakenings

You know, the hotties who "turned" you gay.

Being gay is NOT a choice. How do I know? Because I was always going to be gay after seeing this as a kid.

Credit: Rolling Stone

I for one welcome our new bloodsucking overlords.

This True Blood cover for Rolling Stone is an unholy amount of horny and I'm just as here for it now as I was back in 2010.

Everyone loved to bang on about the vampires in Twilight back then, but I'm 'Team True Blood' for life. I mean, have you seen the material?

Even the werewolves had me panting.

But seriously, these fangbangers might just be the most beautiful creatures I have ever laid eyes upon.

True Blood kind of sucked for real in later seasons, but I forgive it all for this one (imaginary) gay scene between Eric Northman and Jason Stackhouse, aka Alexander Skarsgård and Ryan Kwanten.

Looks like Eric got stacked in his back-house too.

Out Takes

Queer hidden gems you need to see

Chrissy Judy (2023) is one of the best festival films I caught in the last few years that went under the radar for a lot of people.

Todd Flaherty wrote, edited and directed this hidden gem that he also starred in, which just goes to show gays can multi-task after all.

The film introduces Judy, a boy-crazy narcisisst, who's thrown for a loop when their bestie gives up his half of their drag duo to move across the country for a new boyfriend in Philadelphia.

Hurt and more than just a tad resentful, Judy bounces between New York, Philly, and Provincetown to refine his old-school drag act and fill the hole that Chrissy left in his life.

Inevitably, Judy winds up getting another hole filled instead — more than once. But this film is far more concerned with the bond two people can share without a sexual connection.

Chrissy and Judy are soulmates in a specifically queer way, which makes their troubled friendship all the more hard to bear. Disillusioned, Judy is forced to re-examine his priorities in life and as a queer artist with plenty of sass along the way.

Make no mistake about it. Judy is an absolute mess, but who doesn’t love a hot gay mess?
