— Musclefest, a four night showcase of trans and queer cinema is coming to New York's The Roxy Cinema from September 3-6.
Castration Movie Chapter iii. Junior Ghosts—Premorphic Drift; a fragmentary passage, which came out in the UK last week, opens the festival while Avalon Fast/Jillian Frank’s lo-fi hangout film Drinking and Driving closes out the weekend.
If you miss it, both Castration Movie Chapter iii and Drinking and Driving are going to have weekend runs at Brooklyn Academy of Music from September 10-13.

Queer Awakenings
You know, the hotties who "turned" you gay.
Being gay is NOT a choice. How do I know? Because I was always going to be gay after seeing this as a kid.
How you doing? I've never been better after looking through old pics of Matt LeBlanc from the 90s.
That hair? That jawline? I just want to shove my face in it like Joey did to that Thanksgiving turkey on Friends.
Just like Joey doesn't share food, I would hate to share Matt with ANYONE.
Baby, that's a movie STAR!
Ok, maybe not a STAR star, although I'd argue that classic films like Lost In Space and Charlie's Angels would CRUMBLE without that signature smirk.
I'd like to point out that LeBlanc continued to be a snack well into middle-age as well.
So what are you waiting for? Do what I did and go back to the 11 minute mark in Friends season one, episode 13 for a glimpse of Joey in his birthday suit. I promise you there is no better way to start your day.

Queer hidden gems you need to see
Almost a decade before The Boyfriend beamed queer Japanese people into homes worldwide, an intimate, incredibly important documentary named Of Love & Law (2017) charted one gay couple's fight for equality.
Fumi and Kazu run their own legal firm in Osaka, and together, they use their knowledge of the law to campaign for gay marriage rights. The pair wish to raise a child, and their fight to do so shines a searing light on the appalling lack of equality LGBTQ+ endure in Japan.
While this doc was released back in 2017, little has changed in the years that have passed since, at least when it comes to legislation. Almost ten years on, Japan remains the only G7 nation without nationwide marriage equality, although some small strides have been made.
Much of that is thanks to the work of queer people like Fumi and Kazu who don't just fight for themselves, but also help others in need too. Beyond their own story, Of Love & Law also weaves in the pro bono cases they take on to support their community.
These include citizens born illegitimately in Japan, a teacher who lost her job after refusing to stand for the national anthem and an artist named Rokudenashiko who makes controversial sculptures out of vagina reliefs.
Director Hikaru Toda balances these stories beautifully, building a tapestry of love and support in the face of oppression. Throughout all this, smaller details about the main couple's cooking routine or occasional bickering add even more warmth and texture.
Of Love & Law won prizes at both the Tokyo and Hong Kong Film Festivals upon release, but I haven't seen it discussed much since. And that's a shame, because it remains a timely, extremely endearing spotlight on the struggles queer people still face in Japan today.
